All city pools be will open today, following nearly $675,000 in private donations to restore facilities that had been closed due to budget cuts, the mayor's office announced Friday.
The city closed its 26 outdoor pools Monday after a truncated, six-week swim season, one of many cuts that came as officials grappled with a $121 million budget shortfall.
Following public outcry, donations poured into the Baltimore Community Foundation this week, allowing the city to reopen — and in some cases refill — the pools.
The pools will remain open until Labor Day, city officials said.
