Brooklyn Park man fatally shot in early-morning incident

Police in Anne Arundel County are looking for three teenagers they believe were involved in a fatal shooting early Friday during a robbery gone awry.

Officers were summoned to the 100 block of W. Edgevale Road in Brooklyn Park about 12:30 a.m. Friday to investigate a shooting. When they arrived, the officers discovered Eric Javonn Hill, 30, inside his car, with a gunshot wound to the upper torso.

Hill, of the 200 block of W. Edgevale Road, was taken by ambulance to Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore. He was pronounced dead at 2:30 a.m.

Detectives determined from interviews with witnesses that Hill had driven there to pick up a friend when three young men approached his Honda Civic. One pulled out a handgun and demanded money from Hill and his passenger, police said. At that point, Hill appears to have stomped on the accelerator, and the person with the gun shot him. It was not clear whether the suspects got any money, said police spokesman Justin Mulcahy.

Hill's car traveled a short distance and struck a parked vehicle, police said, while the three suspects fled on foot toward Old Riverside Road. They were described as teens, all wearing dark sweatshirts. The gunman was about 5 feet, 3 inches in height, with a thin build.

Detectives learned that Hill and the suspects might have known each other and that Hill might have been targeted for robbery.

Mulcahy said there did not appear to be a connection between Friday's homicide and a fatal shooting last month in Brooklyn Park. On July 1, Adam Ray Bucklew, 21, was shot to death in his vehicle in front of his home in the 400 block of Audrey Ave. Police said the motive for that killing was robbery, and two men have been charged with first-degree murder, armed robbery and related counts.
