Second suspect arrested in killing of Brooklyn Park man

A second suspect was arrested Wednesday night on charges that he killed a Brooklyn Park man who was in his vehicle near his home July 1, said Anne Arundel County police.

Rodney Barnwell, 22, was apprehended about 10 p.m. in a home on Ludlow Street in Philadelphia, where he has ties, according to police. A July 28 warrant for Barnwell and another man charged them with first-degree murder, armed robbery and related counts in the death of Adam Ray Bucklew, 21, of the 400 block of Audrey Ave. Bucklew was found apparently shot to death in his vehicle in front of his home. Police said the motive appeared to be robbery.

Anne Arundel County detectives have interviewed Barnwell, who is in Philadelphia police custody and is awaiting extradition to Maryland. Court records show that in 2008, Barnwell was found not guilty of attempted murder in Baltimore, and that lesser charges against him have been dropped. He has 2007 and 2010 drug possession convictions, according to the records.

Police said the arrest was made in a collaborative effort with Philadelphia police.

Anne Arundel police had arrested Ricky Lamont Mason, also 22, on July 29, charging him with 14 counts, including first-degree murder, in Barnwell's slaying. He is being held without bail at the Anne Arundel County jail.

Both men were known to frequent the Curtis Bay area, and police said they did not have fixed addresses.
