Baltimore County police fired several shots Monday afternoon at a man authorities say struck an officer with a stolen car in Pikesville.
The officer was transported to Maryland Shock Trauma Center with injuries not believed to be life-threatening, and the suspect was not injured, police said.
Police said the incident started about 4:40 p.m. when an officer spotted a car that had been reported stolen, an Acura Legend, at a 7-Eleven on the corner of Reisterstown and Old Milford Mill roads. The officer ordered the driver to stop, according to a police spokesman.
The driver hit the officer, who was on foot, with his car and drove away, police said. The injured officer was able to return to his car, call for help and follow the suspect's vehicle, according to police.
At some point, police opened fire on the car, striking the Acura but not the man.
Lt. Robert McCullough said the man continued to drive westbound on Reisterstown Road, crossed into the oncoming lanes and hit a police car patrolling the area. The Acura then smashed into a green Buick also traveling eastbound on Reisterstown Road, McCullough said.
Police said the driver left the car and jumped a fence to a nearby golf course. McCullough said an officer chased the man and eventually arrested him at the Suburban Club golf course.
Resiterstown Road remained closed for several hours after the incident. Police have not identified the suspect.
