Annapolis police identified a man found fatally shot Saturday at a recreation center as Darius Stanley Johnson, 25, of Glen Burnie.
Officers responding to a call for a nonresponsive man about 7 a.m. found Johnson at an outdoor table near the basketball court at Robinwood Recreation Center, in the 1400 block of Tyler Ave., police said. He had suffered multiple gunshot wounds, including to the head, and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police have made no arrests in the case and asked anyone with information to call 410-562-7520 or Metro Crime Stoppers at 1-866-756-2587. Johnson is the third homicide victim of the year in Annapolis.
Residents of the Robinwood public housing community told investigators they heard what might have been shots or firecrackers, possibly between 2 a.m. and 4 a.m. Saturday, said a police spokesman, Ray Weaver. Police did not make the slaying public while detectives worked the case over the weekend, he said.
Court records show that Johnson, who formerly lived in Annapolis, was ordered by a judge to participate in an inpatient drug treatment program last November after he pleaded guilty to a drug violation and was placed on three years' probation. A trespassing charge against Johnson was to have been heard Monday afternoon in District Court in Annapolis and an open-container violation charge was to have been heard in August.
