Body found on Ocean City beach identified as Delaware man

Police have identified the remains of a body that washed up on an Ocean City beach in April.

The badly decomposed body was that of Gregory R. Forte, 29, of Selbyville, Del., said Sgt. Walter Newton, Delaware State police spokesman.

Forte had been missing since Feb. 9, before a snowstorm, which hampered search efforts, Newton said.

Forte was last seen at a party at a Fenwick Island condo. Witnesses said that Forte left that evening without any shoes, not saying anything to anyone, according to a news release

His family reported him missing when he failed to return home the next day. His gray Jeep Grand Cherokee remained outside the condo with the keys still in the ignition, the radio playing and driver's door open, the release said. His cell phone was also located with a dead battery. Forte's knit hat was also located on a walkway that led to the beach.

Officials are waiting for the medical examiner's office to determine a cause of death.
