Man struck by Amtrak train identified

A man struck and killed Thursday by a southbound Amtrak Acela Express train was identified on Saturday as Timothy Francis Jenkins, 41, of Odenton in Anne Arundel County, according to a spokesman for the railroad.

The accident occurred about 12:30 p.m. about three miles south of BWI Thurgood Marshall Airport, shutting down rail service for about 2-1/2 hours. The speed limit on that stretch of track is 125 mph.

Amtrak spokesman Steve Kulm said in an e-mail that an investigation is continuing and he had no further information as to why Jenkins was on the track.
