Annapolis police will increase drunken-driving patrols on Wednesday, as Cinco de Mayo has increasingly become a celebration marked by drinking.
Drunken-driving saturation patrols will be looking for impaired drivers and placing a greater emphasis on traffic safety throughout the city on Cinco de Mayo, police said.
The May 5 holiday marks the 1862 Battle of Puebla, when a smaller Mexican army turned back French invaders. Annapolis police said Cinco de Mayo is a concern because it has become a drinking and partying holiday like Saint Patrick's Day and Mardi Gras.
