John Hopkins University professor Carol Greider, winner of the 2009 Nobel Prize in physiology or medicine, will speak to top science and math students from Polytechnic Institute at an Ingenuity Project reception from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. April 14 at the Frederick Douglass-Isaac Myers Maritime Park at 1417 Thames St. in Fells Point. Greider, a professor at the Hopkins Institute for Basic Biomedical Sciences, was recognized for her 1984 discovery of telomerase, an enzyme. The Ingenuity Project is a program for students in city schools who excel in science and math. In the past five years, three Ingenuity students have been among the top 10 winners in the Intel Science Talent Search, a prestigious national youth science competition.
