Trial delay granted for woman accused of fraud

Baltimore Sun

A former real estate agent charged with defrauding friends by claiming she had cancer was granted a trial postponement Tuesday. Dina Perouty-Leone, 37, was indicted in November on theft and conspiracy counts in connection with her fundraising to treat a terminal illness that, as it turned out, she did not have. Her trial was to have begun Tuesday before Baltimore County Circuit Judge Susan M. Souder. Attorney Christopher B. Luber told the judge that he had only recently been retained by Perouty-Leone and had not had time to prepare his case. Souder set a trial date of June 15. Perouty-Leone has a criminal history involving a mortgage scam and passing bad checks. She faces a maximum of 15 years in prison and a $25,000 fine if convicted of the latest charges.
