MLK memorial events might tie up traffic in D.C.

Marylanders heading to Washington today might run into traffic jams tied to Martin Luther Jr. King Day events, Metro Police caution.

A peace walk is scheduled from 9 a.m. to noon. The walk starts in the 2500 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Ave., heads south on South Capitol Street and ends at the Covenant Baptist Church in the 3800 block of South Capitol St.

A procession for a wreath-laying ceremony will start at 12:30 p.m. at the 10th Street Baptist Church at 11th and R Streets, Northwest. The procession heads north on 11th Street to Vermont Avenue, Northwest before turning northeast on Vermont Avenue and ending at 2 p.m. at the African-American Civil War Memorial.

An event at the Martin Luther King Jr. Public Library will also close the 900 block of G St. Northwest from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. - Associated Press
