City police assisted in a childbirth Wednesday evening in West Baltimore, according to a department spokesman. Officers Kyle Gaskin, Rashawn Strong and Louis Holland went to the 1900 block of Harlem Ave. after receiving a report about a woman in labor, said Anthony Guglielmi, the agency's chief spokesman. The officers found the woman in a second-floor bathroom, along with another woman. Guglielmi said when the officers arrived, the child had already "breached the birth canal." They got the mother into a safe position and retrieved the child, which had been delivered into a toilet. Police turned the situation over to Fire Department personnel, and the mother and child were taken to a nearby hospital.
