Ice causes crashes, forces temporary closing of I-70

Baltimore Sun

Maryland State Police said sleet and freezing rain caused many crashes Friday morning on Interstates 70 and 68. State police closed all westbound lanes on part of I-70 from about 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. to allow crews to treat the road. Kevin Witt of the National Weather Service said sleet and freezing rain was worst in Western Maryland and nearby areas of Virginia and West Virginia, and a thin glaze of ice was coating trees and power lines near Frostburg.
