Baltimore Sun

A 78-year-old man who was struck by a car as he tried to cross a street Tuesday in Pasadena died at a hospital of his injuries, Anne Arundel County police said. Fred William Champion of the 75800 block of Beach Drive in Pasadena was pronounced dead shortly after 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at the University of Maryland Medical Center. Police said that at about 5:20 p.m., he tried to walk across Riviera Drive, north of Fort Smallwood Road. He was not in a crosswalk and stepped into the path of a southbound Chevrolet Cobalt, which struck him, police said. The driver, Katie Lee Bees, 21, of the 1700 block of Grandview Road in Pasadena told police she did not see him. Police said Champion was wearing dark clothes, and the preliminary investigation points to pedestrian error. Bees and her passenger were not injured.
