No insanity defense in Bethesda yoga store killing

Online court records show a woman charged with killing a co-worker inside a yoga clothing shop has missed a deadline to pursue an insanity defense.

A judge had set Sept. 12 as a deadline for Brittany Norwood's attorneys to file court papers for an insanity defense. But online Maryland court records show no paperwork has been filed.

Norwood is scheduled to stand trial next month in the March slaying of Jayna Murray inside the Lululemon Athletica shop in Bethesda.

Her attorneys had previously indicated that they intended to argue that Norwood is too mentally ill to be held criminally responsible for her actions.

An attorney for Norwood did not return a call seeking comment Tuesday, and a spokesman for the Montgomery County state's attorney's office declined to comment.
