Silvaner is often dismissed as a poor relation of the noble riesling grape, but in the hands of a fine winemaker, it can yield an elegant white wine. The Gysler version comes in a liter bottle and is made in the style the Germans call "halbtrocken," which means half-dry. It's still a reasonably dry wine, but it has just enough residual sugar to take the edge off and balance out the impressive acidity. It's a very fresh-tasting wine with nuances of mint, nuts, lime (juice and zest) and fresh tarragon. It's a Terry Theise Estate Selection, always a good sign.
