Escaped Western Md. inmate found in Baltimore

A state prison inmate who walked off a work detail in Hagerstown Monday was arrested without incident in Baltimore, state police said.

Jerome C. Taylor, 36, was serving a five-year sentence for firearms violations and filing a false report at the Maryland Correctional Training Center in Hagerstown when he walked away from a work detail, officials said. Investigators determined he had been picked up near the prison by a female acquaintance, who drove him to Baltimore.

State troopers and Baltimore police received information that Taylor was staying in the 1000 block of Madison Ave., in the Madison Park neighborhood, and arrested him around noon Tuesday without incident, police said. He was taken to the Maryland Reception, Diagnostic and Classification Center and served with a re-take warrant.

Police are consulting with prosecutors to determine if the female acquaintance will be charged, officials said.

Taylor's escape came about a month after an inmate walked away from a work detail in Southwest Baltimore and was shot inside a shoe store. Stanley Dunham, who was nearing the end of a 15-year sentence for attempted murder, was critically wounded but has since been released to a rehabilitation center, police said.
