A Maryland Transportation Authority Police officer has resigned from the force following a conviction this week stemming from a 2012 incident in which he beat a man with his gun, the state agency said in a statement Friday.
Derwin Waldron was convicted in Baltimore Circuit Court on Wednesday of multiple handgun charges.
"Mr. Waldron's actions were a breach of the public trust and an insult to his fellow officers who are truly committed to protecting Maryland residents," Maryland Transportation Authority Executive Director Bruce W. Gartner said in a statement. "This misconduct and unlawful behavior will not be tolerated."
