Police seeking man who bailed on $1,100 New Year's taxi fare to Virginia Beach

Police released this photo of a man accused of taking a cab from Baltimore to Virginia Beach, then skipping on the $1,100 fare. (submitted photo)

A man who convinced a Baltimore cabbie to drive him all the way to Virginia Beach in the early morning hours of New Year's Day is now being sought by police for not paying the $1,100-plus fare.

The man allegedly told the taxi driver upon arriving at a Holiday Inn in Virginia Beach that he "would be right back" before entering the hotel and never returning, according to the Virginia Beach Police Department.

The department is now asking the public to help it identify the man.

The police report does not indicate where in Baltimore the suspect was picked up by the cab driver.

Virginia Beach is about 250 miles from Baltimore. Driving between the two cities can take nearly 5 hours.

The incident was reported to Virginia Beach police at 5:24 a.m. on New Year's Day, according to the police report — meaning the ride likely started not long after the ball dropped.
