Child among victims in E. Baltimore triple shooting

A child was shot along with two men Saturday night in the Johnston Square neighborhood of East Baltimore, police said.

"The Baltimore Police Department echoes our communities' outrage over the fact that, again, an innocent child has been caught up in a reprehensible act of violence," according to an official statement from the agency. "This was not a random act - and those responsible will be held accountable."

The shooting occurred around 9:39 p.m. in the 1200 block of E. Eager St., said Detective Angela Carter-Watson, a police spokeswoman. None of the injuries appear to be life-threatening, she said.

The child, a boy, is about 6 or 7, said Col. Darryl DeSousa, the Baltimore City Police Department's chief of patrol. "It looks like the child was outside playing," he said.

DeSousa said all three victims were shot outside and were taken to area hospitals. No further details were available late Sunday, as police said the investigation is ongoing.
