A tractor trailer overturned, spilling fuel onto the Baltimore beltway and closing all traffic lanes, Maryland highway officials said Thursday morning.
The crash occurred sometime before 7 a.m in the area of the Key Bridge on the outer loop of Interstate 695, according to the Maryland Transportation Authority. Traffic on both the inner and outter loop were closed for the crash, which involved other vehicles, officials said on Twitter.
The outer loop reopened by about noon, the MDTA said.
Traffic cameras showed police activity in the area of Exit 43 in the Sparrows Point area on the east side of the Key Bridge span.
Two other crashes were reported Thursday on both sides of the Jones Falls Expressway near the Pepsi sign in Woodberry, the Baltimore City Department of Transportation said.
Weather was a factor in a number of smaller crashes around the region Thursday morning, as heavy rain fell before the beginning of the morning rush.
Up to 6 inches of rain is expected to fall by Friday, and flood warnings were in effect throughout the region.
