Pedestrian killed by vehicle in East Baltimore, I-70 closed in Frederick

A 53-year-old man was struck and killed by a vehicle in East Baltimore on Monday, city police said.

Officers responded to the 4000 block of East Monument Street in Orangeville around 5:42 a.m., where medics pronounced the man dead. The driver of the vehicle involved in the incident remained at the scene and showed no signs of impairment, police said.

Crash team investigators are evaluating the incident to determine who was at fault, police said. Any witnesses to the accident are asked to call investigators at 410-396-2606.

Eastbound traffic on the road was stopped during the morning commute.

Also Monday morning, westbound traffic was stopped on Interstate 70 in Frederick County Monday morning for a police investigation.

State transportation officials urged commuters to seek alternate routes.

Frederick County Sheriff's Office said on Twitter that the department was negotiating with a person along the roadway at U.S. 40 near Ridge Road.
