With the first day of spring ushering in a wintry mix of rain and snow, state and local transportation departments warm motorists to keep speeds down and allow for extra braking distance during Friday morning's commute.
The Baltimore City Department of Transportation at 5 a.m. said a full deployment of crews with 245 pieces of equipment are prepared to treat roads on Friday morning and cautioned that slippery conditions could develop as snow mixes with rain.
The Baltimore County Office of Emergency Management said at 5:50 a.m. that roads in the county's northern areas have become snow covered and said that county crews are prepared to respond as needed.
The state Department of Transportation said that Thursday night emergency roadwork on the outer loop of I-695 at the Jones Falls Expressway in Baltimore County has closed the outer loop right shoulder Friday morning.
