Crashes snarl traffic amid snow

Several crashes and other incidents have been reported early Tuesday as drivers faced slick roads during and after rush hour.

A three-vehicle collision on Interstate 795 North in Owings Mills prior to the Owings Mills Boulevard exit has closed the northbound right traffic lane and northbound right shoulder at 9:30 a.m., according to the state Department of Transportation.

A two-vehicle collision on I-95 North in Edgewood prior to the Mountain Road exit has closed the northbound left shoulder at 9:22 a.m., DOT said.

A disabled vehicle on the inner loop of I-695 in Pikesville at Reisterstown Road has closed the inner loop right shoulder at 8:37 a.m., DOT said.

A two-vehicle collision on I-95 South in White Marsh at the White Marsh Boulevard exit has closed the southbound left shoulder at 8:56 a.m., DOT said.

Several incidents that snarled traffic throughout rush hour have cleared.

All southbound lanes are open on I-895 in Baltimore City with the clearing of a single-vehicle crash at the Lombard Street exit that had blocked lanes for more than three hours, DOT said.

All lanes on I-95 South in Rossville are open with the clearing of two incidents at the Baltimore Beltway, DOT said.

At 9:39 a.m., Baltimore County Police officials urged motorists to avoid the following roads due to icy conditions: Cross Campus Drive and York Road as well as Lake Avenue in the area of Lake Manor Drive.

State Highway Administration continued to treat roads and asked that motorists lower their speeds while traveling Tuesday. Officials also remind drivers to have low-beam headlights on when windshield wipers are in operation.

"Rush hour will be challenging so we strongly encourage motorists to delay their commute and allow trucks the time to effectively maneuver and treat the roads," SHA Administrator Melinda B. Peters said in a statement.

Baltimore County Emergency Management officials took to Twitter to ask motorists to stay home if at all possible.

The Maryland Transit Administration reported minor MARC train and local bus delays at 9:20 a.m.
