All northbound traffic on MD 2 in Anne Arundel County remained shut down at noon on Tuesday due to an early morning incident involving an asphalt paving truck, according to the State Highway Administration.
SHA spokesman Charlie Gischlar said that around 4:20 a.m. a contractor was spreading asphalt on the pavement when the back of the truck elevated too high and knocked out a traffic signal. He said the signal's master arm — the bar that hoists the traffic light over the road — is down
"We have determined that it's damaged beyond repair," said Gischlar. He added that traffic on MD 2 has been diverted along Route 10 and then to the Beltway. He said that the road will likely remain closed through this afternoon.
The Maryland Transportation Authority said on Tuesday morning that the I-695 Curtis Creek Drawbridge will be open for U.S. Coast Guard traffic at 11:30 a.m. until traffic clears.
