Southwest flight headed to BWI makes emergency landing in N.C.

GREENSBORO, N.C. — No injuries were reported when a Southwest Airlines plane made an emergency landing at Piedmont Triad International Airport in Greensboro.

An airline spokeswoman says Flight 999 was headed to Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport from Birmingham, Ala., Monday morning when it landed in Greensboro because a warning light in the cockpit indicated a fire in the cargo area.

No fire was found, and no injuries were reported among the 91 passengers and five crew members.

Southwest spokeswoman Marilee McInnis says the airline used another plane to fly the passengers to BWI.
