Voice mail system for several state agencies not operating

The primary voice mail system for state agencies located in Baltimore is not functioning, officials said Wednesday night.

The state's Department of Information Technology is working on the outage reported on Tuesday that affects voice mail and automated attendants used by certain state agencies, said Isabel FitzGerald, Secretary of Information Technology in an emailed statement. She said the system is expected to be working again by Monday.

"In the interim, the State is working with agencies to modify call routing to minimize the impact of the outage, and will continue to work with agencies until a permanent fix is in place," she said.

State agencies can also be contacted through departmental websites and social media. She said agencies will post instructions on their websites as changes are made.

The system failure means main department automated messages will ring with no answer, individual extensions voice mail are no longer available and state employees will not be able to retrieve previously recorded messages.
