A Social Security Administration building in Baltimore has been evacuated after a "suspicious package" was identified on the property, according to SSA and local emergency officials.
"The building has been evacuated," confirmed Dorothy Clark, a Social Security spokeswoman. "The bomb squad is there."
Clark said she could not immediately provide additional information, including how many people work in the building.
The Mayor's Office of Emergency Management tweeted that the building, at 6100 Wabash Avenue, had been evacuated and that the Baltimore Fire Department was on the scene.
A Baltimore Fire Department dispatcher said the department had responded to the building for a report of a "suspicious package," not a fire, but referred additional questions to a department spokesman, who could not immediately be reached.
