Baltimore City firefighters are investigating the cause of a two-alarm blaze that broke out Friday at the old Sojourner-Douglass College building in East Baltimore.
Firefighters responded to 200 N. Central Ave. after a passerby reported hearing a loud explosion and seeing fire. When they arrived, firefighters found heavy smoke and a fire in the building's third floor.
The fire was extinguished within 35 minutes and there were no injuries, a Baltimore City Fire spokesman said.
The building has been vacant since the 44-year-old school lost its accreditation last year. The building was put up for sale this year.
