One killed in small plane crash in Montgomery County

One person was killed when a small, Cessna-type plane crashed in rural Montgomery County on Tuesday evening near a small airstrip.

The plane crashed in a field owned by Linthicum Farm near Laytonsville Road and Hawkins Creamery Road in Laytonsville, a small town near Gaithersburg, Montgomery County fire officials said. It was near Davis Airport, a tiny airport with one runway.

The plane caught fire after crashing. Officials were investigating how the plane crashed.
