State school board to meet with public about selecting next superintendent

As it begins the search for a new state school superintendent, the Maryland state school board will hold meetings in different areas of the state as well as provide an online survey for the public to give input on what they want in a new leader.

Board president James H. DeGraffenreidt Jr. said he expects the selection of the new superintendent to take at least until next spring.

Since Nancy S. Grasmick retired from the job June 30, the board has hired a consultant to conduct a national search and named Bernard Sadusky as interim superintendent.

In making the selection, DeGraffenreidt said the board will take into consideration the characteristics that the public believes the next superintendent should have. Information about the time and location of the meetings has not been announced.
