Baltimore City saw little more than slush on Saturday morning as snow that fell through the night was doused with rain. The National Weather Service said that more snow and rain is possible for the area on Saturday until about 3 p.m.
Saturday accumulations would likely be below a half inch, NWS said. Chance of precipitation is 80 percent, NWS said. Saturday should see a high temperature near 40 degrees. Winds should come from the west at up to 14 mph, with gusts of up to 23 mph.
Partly cloudy skies are expected on Saturday night, with a low around 31 degrees. Winds will blow from the west at up to 13 mph with gusts of up to 22 mph, NWS said.
Skies should clear on Sunday morning, bringing in a high temperature near 42 degrees. Winds will come from the west at up to 8 mph before becoming calm in the afternoon.
Come Sunday night, rain and snow from another storm could bring up to a quarter of an inch of precipitation before 9 p.m., NWS said. A low temperature of 27 is expected. An 80-percent chance of precipitation is forecast for Sunday, with winds coming from the northeast at up to 11 mph., and gusts of up to 20 mph, NWS said.
Sunday's forecast is a far cry from an earlier outlook of several inches or more of snow.
David Buck, an agency spokesman, said the first storm was wide, bringing different types of slushy rain and snow to different areas of the state. He expected some roads and overpasses, particularly to the north and west, to need salting.
The back-to-back storms and lack of certainty about accumulations are posing challenges for officials, he said. But crews will remain on the job throughout the weekend.
"We've got a lot of something coming," Buck said. "The questions is how much rain, how much sleet and how much snow and where? We don't want motorists to be complacent and assume because it's OK at their house it's OK everywhere."
