A 72-year-old man was killed and another man injured in a home invasion early Wednesday morning in Salisbury, Maryland State Police said.
The victim was identified as Donald G. Mariner, who was pronounced dead in his home in the 27000 block of Pemberton Drive after police and EMTs arrived around 1 a.m. The nature of his injuries was not disclosed and Maryland State Police said an autopsy is scheduled. The second victim, whom police did not identify out of concerns for his safety, was assaulted with a "blunt object" and taken to a hospital. Police believe the two were roommates.
Police did not release information on a possible motive but said they are seeking a male suspect who was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and jeans during the crime. Mariner's black Ford F-150 had been stolen and was found abandoned on West Main Street, two miles away. Anyone who may have seen the truck in the area of Pemberton Drive or West Main Street between 11:30 p.m. Tuesday and 1:45 a.m. Wednesday is asked to call police.
The State Police's homicide unit is investigating, and anyone with information is asked to call the Maryland State Police Salisbury Barrack at 410-749-3101. The Crime Solvers of the Lower Eastern Shore are offering a $2,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and indictment of the suspect. They can be contacted at 410-548-1776.
