Cat that bit 2 in Cecil Co. tests positive for rabies

A cat that bit two people near Rising Sun High School in Cecil County has tested positive for rabies.

The Cecil County Health Department says the two people were in a parking lot when they were bitten by the cat in an unprovoked attack. The cat died and was sent to a state health department laboratory, where it tested positive for rabies.

The cat is described as an adult female with calico coloring. Anyone scratched or bitten in the past 10 days by a cat fitting that description in the North East area is urged to call a doctor or go to an emergency room.

Rabies is a virus that's fatal in both animals and humans. The people bitten by the cat are being treated with post-exposure rabies vaccinations.
