The state's spending board on Wednesday approved more than $65 million to upgrade sewage and drinking water systems throughout the state.
"Projects such as these are an important part of our effort to improve Maryland waterways, including the Chesapeake Bay, and provide quality drinking water to our citizens," Gov. Martin O'Malley said in a statement after the Board of Public Works vote. "These projects reduce pollution and protect the environment and public health while creating jobs for more Marylanders."
About $10.7 million is headed to Baltimore County to cover infrastructure costs associated with improvements to various sewer projects and the Enchanted Hill and Wye Oak pumping stations.
The other funds are dedicated to St. Mary's, Calvert, Wicomico, Frederick, Montgomery, Allegany and Prince George's counties.
