Baltimore will start collecting polystyrene foam foodservice containers for recycling.
Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake announced Wednesday that the city will begin collecting polystyrene foodservice products at the Northwest Citizen's Convenience Center beginning Nov. 4.
The material is also known as foam #6 and is usually marked with the number 6 surrounded by a recycling symbol. City officials say it is used in foam cups, plates, egg cartons and foodservice containers, as well as large molded blocks used to package electronics and other items. City officials say Dart Container Corp., which makes polystyrene foam foodservice products, will pick up the material, which will be used to make new products such as picture frames, molding and nursery plant containers.
