Anne Arundel, Howard and Harford executives host summit on opioid issues

The county executives of Anne Arundel, Harford and Howard counties are scheduled to host a opioid summit Tuesday featuring panel discussions on health partnerships, drug court programs, the neurobiology of addiction and law enforcement strategies.

The Tri-County Opioids Addiction Summit will include Lt. Governor Boyd Rutherford, along with Harford County Executive Barry Glassman, Howard County Executive Allan H. Kittleman and Anne Arundel County Executive Steve Schuh.

It's being held Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., at Ten Oaks Ballroom at 5000 Signal Bell Lane in Clarksville.

Each executive will discuss his jurisdiction's efforts to address the growing opioid addiction crisis. Lt. Gov. Rutherford, who chairs Maryland's Heroin and Opioid Emergency Task Force, will outline statewide efforts to combat opioid and heroin abuse.

Following the conference, training on the use of Naloxone for registered participants will be held from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Naloxone is a prescription nasal spray can reverse the effects of an opioid overdose.
