Man killed during struggle with sheriff's deputy

HERMANVILLE — The St. Mary's County Sheriff's Office says a man has been fatally shot during a struggle with a deputy.

Authorities say about 3:20 p.m. on Thursday, deputies were called to a home in Hermanville for a domestic assault.

Police say a deputy tried to arrest a 38-year-old man, but he resisted and a violent struggle ensued.

Officials say the deputy discharged his gun and the suspect was pronounced dead at the scene.

The deputy sustained some injuries. The incident is under investigation.
