A city worker fell into a sinkhole on West Mulberry Street and sustained minor injuries on the Fourth of July, Baltimore officials said.
The street, a major thoroughfare into downtown Baltimore, is expected to remain closed for much of the week after a water main broke and the pavement collapsed on Monday, city officials said.
No other details on the worker's fall were available.
Photographs released Monday morning by the Department of Public Works showed the center of the road collapsed in an area between Greene and Paca streets. A city public works spokesman said emergency repairs are underway but that officials do not expect Mulberry will be passable Tuesday morning.
The spokesman, Jeffrey Raymond, said the department should have a better sense of when the road can reopen later Tuesday.
