A couple of on-campus skirmishes that occurred after a party at Morgan State University early Saturday morning were broken up by campus and Baltimore City police, but no arrests were made, Morgan State officials said.
University spokesman Clinton Coleman said on Saturday the party sponsored by the student government and Greek letter organizations drew about 1,200 people. He said fights broke out around 12:30 a.m. in two different locations on the campus and campus police intervened, followed by city police.
It was the second violent incident at the northeast Baltimore campus in two days. A student suffered non-lifethreatening injuries Thursday night after being stabbed by a roommate wielding a pair of scissors at Rawlings Hall, Coleman said. The two had gotten into a dispute over their tidiness of their room, he said. A person was arrested, Coleman said, but he declined to name the person.
Early Saturday morning, Baltimore police responded to a report of a woman having difficulty breathing on the Morgan State campus, spokeswoman Lt. Sarah Connelly said. She couldn't confirm if it was related to the fights and said she didn't have any reports of other incidents on the campus.
Coleman said one person complained of being pepper sprayed and was treated at the scene. Campus police reported they had not pepper sprayed anyone and added they had taken pepper spray away from several patrons around the party. Coleman said Baltimore City police also reported having not pepper sprayed anyone.
Coleman said that it marked the first on-campus party since a moratorium had been placed on such events a year ago, in part due to a similar incident.
While no formal decision has been made, Coleman said, "this may be the last [campus party] for a while."
