A number of events are planned for the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. holiday:
• Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake and the Baltimore Office of Promotion and the Arts will host the 15th annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. parade. The parade begins at 11:30 a.m. at the intersection of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Eutaw Street. The parade proceeds south on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and disbands at Baltimore Street.
• The Reginald F. Lewis Museum will host a roundtable discussion Monday about civil rights and the evolving relationship between the police and the populace in light of the events in Ferguson, Missouri. The discussion will feature Baltimore Police Commissioner Anthony Batts, Councilman Nick Mosby and others. The museum also is hosting an a cappella quartet, a group comprised of drummers and poets, and a storytelling group that will share oral histories of figures active in the civil rights movement. Events are scheduled from noon to 3 p.m.
• The Maryland Coalition for Justice and Equality, a coalition of Maryland clergy, community organizers, and civic organizations, will hold a rally in Annapolis to address issues facing the African-American community with Maryland lawmakers. The staging site will be at the First Baptist Church of Annapolis where there will be a brief prayer service at 6 p.m. before the march to the State House.
