Man found dead in Baltimore harbor

Firefighters found a man's body in the water near the Bond Street Wharf in Fells Point Saturday evening, the department said.

A bystander called 911 after seeing a man in the water at the pier at Thames and S. Bond streets at 1:30 p.m., Fire Department spokesman Capt. Roman Clark said.

Rescue divers initially searched the area unsuccessfully. The department, which was assisted by the Middle River Volunteer Fire Company and Baltimore police, then brought out SONAR equipment to scan the water for the man.

The body was recovered shortly after 6 p.m., the department said. The man was not identified. The State Medical Examiner will perform an autopsy to determine the cause of death.
