Laurel worker struck by SUV, killed Monday morning

A 30-year-old worker for the City of Laurel died Monday morning when an SUV hit him behind his trash truck, a Laurel spokeswoman said.

The Department of Public Works employee died at Old Sandy Spring Road and Casulas Way. Officials did not identifiy him.

Witnesses said a woman in a Lincoln Navigator struck a parked car then swerved into the back of the trash truck and hit the worker, spokeswoman Audrey Barnes said.

The driver stopped and was being questioned by police. The worker was the son of a longtime City of Laurel employee, Barnes said.

Old Sandy Spring Road remains closed between Casulas Way and Castle Court.
