CUMBERLAND, Md. (AP) — Maryland State Police are investigating the killing of an inmate at a state prison near Cumberland.
Shane Simms, 24, was stabbed by at least one inmate Wednesday in an outdoor recreation area of the maximum-security North Branch Correctional Institution, police said Thursday.
Police say they've identified another inmate as a suspect, but he hasn't been charged.
Investigators recovered several homemade knives from the scene, police said.
Court records show that Simms was serving a 10-year sentence for a 2014 conviction for attempted second-degree murder in Baltimore.
