Escaped Md. prison inmate caught in Hagerstown

A Maryland state prison inmate is back in custody after less than 24 hours on the lam.

State police say officers arrested 50-year-old Christopher Randolph about 5 p.m. Tuesday near downtown Hagerstown.

The Herald-Mail of Hagerstown reports that Randolph had failed to show up for a ride back to the medium-security Maryland Correctional Training Center on Monday night after his work-release shift at a downtown food-service business.

The former Ijamsville resident was serving a 13-year-sentence for robbery with a deadly weapon. He was scheduled for release in December.
