Howard County officials will hold a hearing Monday to consider legislation waiving permit fees for those rebuilding after deadly floodwaters swept through Ellicott City last month.
The bill would waive permit fees for plumbing, electrical, heating and air conditioning, also water and sewer service, among other work.
The County Council is scheduled to consider the bill Monday at noon in the Banneker Room of the George Howard Building, 3430 Court House Dr., Ellicott City.
"We want to encourage these property owners and let them know that we're here to help them," County Executive Allan Kittleman said. "The last thing they need to struggle with is paying more fees as they recover from the flooding."
The bill would retroactively apply to fees incurred since Aug. 1. And the fees would be waived through October for those impacted by the July 30 flooding.
Howard County officials also said Sunday they have pulled all 19 cars from the Patapsco River and police will contact the owners. They reminded citizens and unauthorized towing companies to stay away from debris still in the river.
