Motorcyclist, 26, critically injured in crash in Highland

A 26-year-old motorcyclist was critically injured in a crash in Highland Sunday afternoon, Howard County police said.

Robert Michael Kessler Foster, of Savage, was driving a Yamaha R6S motorcycle westbound on Route 216 near Hall Shop Road toward a red light when he lost control and the bike crossed into the opposite lane and hit a Hyundai Santa Fe head-on, police said.

He was taken to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center, where he is listed in critical condition, police said.

The driver of the Hyundai, Daniel Arthur Hardnock, 43, of Gaithersburg, was uninjured, police said.

Police have not given a cause for the accident.

The intersection was closed for about an hour and a half after the crash, police said.
