The State Fire Marshal's office is continuing its investigation of a fire at hay barns in the Fair Hill Natural Resources Management Area in Elkton.

The fire reportedly destroyed about $200,000 worth of hay and was still smoldering Sunday, said Bruce Bouch, spokesman for the fire marshal's office.

NRP officers secured the site and were providing security, according to a spokeswoman for the Department of Natural Resources.

Firefighters had been called to the blaze at the Fair Hill after 12:30 p.m. Saturday, and found that two pole barns storing large bales of hay caught fire. The barns are 50 by 500 feet, according to Senior Deputy State Fire Marshal Oliver Alkire said Saturday.

A third barn was saved, according to DNR officials. The barns are down the road from the Fair Hill Training Center, an equestrian facility that leases 350 acres from the state.

No injuries were reported in the two-alarm blaze.
