A bicyclist remains in critical condition Saturday after he rode into the path of an oncoming SUV in unincorporated Harford County on Friday.
David Z. Taylor, 18, of Edgewood sustained serious injuries and was flown by helicopter to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center.
The driver of the 2002 Chevrolet Suburban – Gregory J. Peterson, 52, of Baltimore – was not injured.
The crash occurred at 5:09 p.m. when Peterson was driving south on Philadelphia Road and Taylor was riding his bike west on Vietnam Veterans Memorial Highway in Abingdon. According to a Maryland State Police press release, Taylor, who was wearing dark clothes, no helmet and had no reflective gear, darted into the intersection in front of the SUV, Peterson was unable to stop his car in time and plowed into the bicycle.
The intersection was closed to traffic for about two hours Friday night, the release said.
