What are average gas prices in Maryland? See how much a gallon costs near you.

As oil producers struggle to keep up with a global surge in demand for fuel, Maryland motorists are still paying record high prices for a gallon of gasoline.

The United States is the world’s largest oil producer — ahead of Saudi Arabia and Russia — but it is also the biggest oil consumer, and it can’t meet that staggering demand with domestic crude alone.

While Russian oil only makes up about 8% of all U.S. oil imports, many buyers, including the United States, have refused to accept Russian oil, raising prices even more.

Prices hit an all time high in Maryland on March 11, with consumers paying $4.31 per gallon for regular, unleaded gasoline, according to auto club AAA.

A year ago, the average price per gallon was $2.85, according to AAA.

A monthlong suspension of Maryland’s gas tax went into effect Friday, giving drivers a 36 cent decrease in price per gallon, but the decrease depends on gas station operators reducing their prices quickly.

The map below, which is updated daily, shows the average gas price in every jurisdiction in Maryland.
